This case is very personal to me as it was one of the first cases I profiled in my career.
Andrea Cincotta was strangled in her condo in Arlington, Virgina in 1998. Her fiancé, Chris Johnson, immediately became the suspect and after 72 hours of interrogation, he confessed to her death. Yet, his confession didn’t match the autopsy results. He remained their suspect even though he actually had an alibi for her time of death.
The police told the public they need not worry; there was no danger to anyone. But they arrest no one.
I was brought in by the victim’s son to analyze the crime. Within days I identified a man, Bobby Joe Leonard, who had worked on the property three weeks prior to the murder as the perpetrator. The police ignored my profile.
Yet, in 2021 over two decades later, Arlington Commonwealth’s attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti presented both the case to a special grand jury charging Leonard with the murder of Cincotta and Johnson with hiring him to do it.
Watch this show for this incredible story of how the handling of a case can go so wrong and how the power of a commonwealth attorney can be so abused and cause so much grief.
