President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Sunday that South Africa would revamp its anti-corruption policy and Maintain the independence of prosecutors. This was in response to suggestions made by a state investigation, into alleged wrongdoing under his predecessor, Jacob Zuma. A judicial commission of inquiry was set up to look into claims of high-level corruption during the nine years that former President Jacob Zuma was in office, from 2009 to 2018.
“The people of South Africa are tired of corruption and want it to end,”As a country, we are emerging from a dark and difficult period,” President Ramaphosa said in a live television broadcast. The investigation showed that Zuma had permitted businesspeople close to him, Namely the Gupta brothers, Atul, Ajay, and Rajesh, to misappropriate public funds and manipulate policy, A practice known as “state capture” in South Africa.
