Sal Albanese is to date the most critical Democrat that has gone on the record about New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“He’s probably the least qualified of all the mayors I’ve worked with,” declared the former 2013 mayoral candidate in an interview with City & State Editor-at-Large Gerson Borrero.
Albanese, a former New York City Councilman, spoke proudly of passing the first living wage law and of the community policing that took place when Ben Ward was Police Commissioner. He also criticized the media for how the 2013 mayoral race played out and pointed to being left out of debates based on the lack of money he raised.
“There was no vetting of de Blasio,” Albanese said.
Now a practicing attorney, Albanese defines de Blasio as “a great political machinator” with “no managerial skills” who should never have been mayor.
Albanese also opines about the absence of “checks and balances” at City Hall, and says of the current members, “They’d rather have a press conference and showboat, they don’t want to do the hard work.”
And if you think he’s a fan of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s policies, you’re mistaken, especially when it comes to the governor’s push reform the state’s education system.
“Andrew is basically a professional politician,” Albanese said. “He really doesn’t understand education.”
