STORYLINE:
Romanian authorities on Saturday morning started to move away luxury cars from a compound on the outskirts of Bucharest, belonging to social media influencer Andrew Tate.
The luxury vehicles have been seized as part of an investigation into Tate, a divisive social media personality who was detained in Romania on charges of human trafficking and rape.
Earlier this week, a court in Romania ruled against an appeal by Tate, who challenged the asset seizures.
Tate, 36, a British-U.S. citizen who has 4.5 million followers on Twitter, was initially detained on December 29 in Bucharest along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian women.
The group lost an appeal Tuesday when a court upheld a judge’s December 30 move to grant prosecutors’ request to extend their arrest from 24 hours to 30 days.
But in a separate hearing Wednesday at the Bucharest Tribunal, Tate lost an appeal that challenged the seizure of his assets.
More than 10 properties and land owned by companies registered to the Tate brothers have also been seized so far.
