The second annual Smart on Crime Innovations Conference is a nonpartisan, public statement proving that the momentum for criminal justice reform will continue in the face of outdated “tough on crime” policies. The conference will emphasize the need to maintain a commitment to criminal justice reform and tackle the unexplored and difficult questions that must be faced in order to move forward toward a smarter, fairer, and more just system.
The power of the prosecutor, the role of the public defender, the interaction between them throughout
a criminal case, and the systemic changes that must be made to produce just outcomes are examined.
Moderator: Jonathan Rapping | Gideon’s Promise
Panelists: Bernice Donald | Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit
Adam Foss | Prosecutor Impact
John Pfaff | Fordham University
Jeffrey Robinson | ACLU
Sharon Williams | Gideon’s Promise
