STORYLINE:
Despite a public plea for tolerance from President George W. Bush Thursday, violence towards Arab-Americans and Muslim communities is growing across the United States following Tuesday’s devastating terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
Many Arab-Americans and Muslims now feel targeted or under suspicion.
In New York, Muslims praying in Brooklyn’s Al Farook Mosque spoke Thursday of their horror at the attacks and expressed support for President Bush.
Worshipper Wisser Mountessil said “We are all against this attack…..and want also these people to get to justice and be punished.”
Earlier Thursday, President Bush urged Americans to “treat Arab-Americans and Muslims with the respect they deserve.”
He added “We should not hold one who is a Muslim responsible for an act of terror.”
The prime suspect in the terror plot is Saudi-born terror mastermind Osama bin Laden, who was given asylum by Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers.
