New Orleans made headlines this week, but not in a way we would want – as the national news media reported on the spiraling crime rate. Besides the human tragedies, there was also concern about what the crime was doing to the image of the city. We will look at that question as well as our Future Watch section reporting on big name events that are leaving or coming, and at a 1990s police reform wave that countered a murder rate that was even higher than now.
Elsewhere, we will hear about a new WYES documentary on former Xavier President Norman Francis, as well as some good news for Lakeside shopping center; and in this the week of a royal funeral, a look at times when royalty has touched New Orleans.
