Jaideep Saikia is a Terrorism & Conflict analyst with over two dozen peer reviewed papers on security and strategy. He is also the author and or editor of several books, including the bestselling “Terror Sans Frontiers: Islamist Militancy in North East India”, “Frontier in Flames: North East India in Turmoil”, “Terrorism: Patterns of Internationalisation” and “Mind over Matter”.
An alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehra Dun, St Stephen’s College, Delhi and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, Saikia has served the Governments of India and Assam in security advisorial capacities, including a stint in India’s National Security Council Secretariat. He participated in “Track II Dialogues” with Bangladesh, China and Myanmar and has been an “International Visitor” to the United States in 2003 on the invitation of the US Department of State. Saikia was a State Guest to Pakistan in 1988 on an invitation of the President of Pakistan. He was also a Senior Fellow in the Think Tank, “Vivekananda International Foundation”. Saikia received the Governor of Assam’s “Scroll of Honour” in June 1999 for commendable work for countering insurgency in Assam, Citations from the General Officers Commanding, 3 and 4 Corps in January 2021, the Achiever 2020 Award for Outstanding Contribution to National Security. He is also the recipient of several civil society awards including the Bordoisila Award in December 2022.
Saikia was also selected the sole Asian Fellow of West Point, USA in 2022 out of seventeen others worldwide. He is a celebrated columnist and regularly writes on India’s national security and India’s neighborhoods.
Jaideep Saikia was awarded the GOC-in-C, Eastern Indian Army Command’s Commendation Card on15 August 2022 making him one of the rarest of civilians outside the Indian army to be so decorated.
