The crisis in British policing continues to deepen. First there was the kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah Everard by a Metropolitan Police officer. Other officers who shared racist, anti-gay and misogynistic messages in his WhatsApp group were jailed or faced gross misconduct proceedings.
Then evidence was uncovered of bullying and harassment as well as racist, sexist and anti-gay messages among officers at Charing Cross police station. Now evidence has emerged of an utterly toxic culture in Gwent police force.
WhatsApp and Facebook messages showed its police officers openly discussing the sexual harassment of junior female colleagues; racist, homophobic and misogynistic abuse; shared pornographic images; the leaking of sensitive information, and corruption.
