The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with a diverse group of Morgan County churches to present the second annual “Faith and Blue” event this Saturday, Oct. 8, on the front lawn of the Morgan County Public Safety Center, 1380 Monticello Highway.
Last year, according to event organizers, more than 1,000 persons attended the four hour festival that is designed to “build bridges and break biases.”
The event, which begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. is featuring a host of law enforcement officials including representatives from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Police Department, Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Georgia State Patrol.
Morgan County Sheriff Robert Markley, who will provide opening remarks, says the event is “an opportunity for law enforcement officers and the community to mix in a comfortable, fun setting that promotes both fellowship and mutual understanding.”
According to Stephanie Whitley, more than 25 diverse Morgan County churches will have booths at the event featuring games for children, food and prizes. Morgan County Sheriff’s Office chaplain the Rev. Robert Terrell will offer a unity prayer at the event.
The event, says Whitley, is an annual nationwide effort to attempt to “improve community relationships with place through faith-based groups.”
Organizers hope the “Faith, Family and Fellowship Festival” provides citizens to interact with law enforcement officers and officials in a friendly, fun atmosphere. Whitley says there will be a wide variety of food available at the event, from hot dogs to barbecue to chicken and desserts. The event also features a cake walk during the day. Everything at the event is free of charge.
Live music will be backed up by a disc jockey during the festival.
On Friday, as part of the Faith and Blue weekend, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office will also be holding a free car seat check event. The free car seat check event will be from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot between the First Methodist and First Baptist churches on Madison’s Main Street.
Morgan County Sheriff’s Office administrator and certified car seat technician Whitney Robison says the car seat event will give parents and opportunity to have an officer observe placement and installation of a car seat. “We want to make it’s property installed and in the right condition.”
Parents will be able to pull into the parking lot, again free of charge, and have certified technician’s check their car seat for fit and placement. The technicians will also check the seat for expiration issues or recalls.
