Two states. Similar stories. One troubling pattern.
In Edo State this week, five police officers were dismissed and arrested for allegedly operating within a syndicate that abduct and extorted residents along Teboga, Aduwawa axis—forcing victims to withdraw money through POS machines.
In Delta State, two officers were caught on camera extorting a motorist—again, using POS—right inside a police station.
In both cases, the officers have been dismissed.

These two similar incidents have once again opened up deep concerns within the policing system, with residents in Edo, Delta, and Nigerians at large raising critical issues around:

Abuse of power
The growing trust gap between citizens and the police
And broader questions about the effectiveness and accountability of the system
Because for many Nigerians, this is not just news—it’s a lived reality.
