On December 5, 2024, at approximately 2:55 a.m., Police Officers John Rodriguez and Nassir Willey responded to the 300 block of Washington Street on reports of an unhoused individual sleeping in the vestibule of a store. Officers approached the woman, later identified as 62-year-old Carol Maldonado of Hoboken, who had already been advised she could not sleep in vestibules and woke her up. She refused to give officers her information when asked and became irate and refused to cooperate. She was placed under arrest for defiant trespassing and resisted. Once handcuffed, she spat on and kicked one of the officers. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters and processed on charges of criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, and throwing bodily fluids at law enforcement officers. She was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
