New video obtained by FOX 10 Investigates shows what an off-duty Phoenix Police sergeant claimed was an assault that happened during an anti-ICE protest in Chandler.
Officials with the Chandler Police Department said a teenage girl was arrested on Jan. 30 outside Hamilton High School, and accused of throwing a water bottle at someone supporting ICE. It was later found that the incident involved a cup of water, and not a bottle.
While misdemeanor charges of assault and disorderly conduct were submitted against the girl, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute, due to no likelihood of conviction. The incident has also drawn criticism from others, including a Phoenix City councilmember. FOX 10 Investigator Justin Lum has more.
