Three of the nine multi-million rand diamond scam accused have been granted bail at the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court. Diamond dealer Louis Liebenberg together with his wife Desiree and their seven co-accused, were arrested in Gauteng and the North West during a multidisciplinary operation on Tuesday and Wednesday. Liebenberg, who is believed to be the mastermind, allegedly advertised unpolished diamonds on social media and invited potential investors to invest in his business, with a promise of a lucrative return which never materialised. The investors were allegedly scammed out of more than R4 billion since 2019.
