Baltimore, Maryland — On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, around 9:15 p.m. Baltimore Police Officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of Bank Street after a caller said a man was threatening someone with a firearm and provided a description. As police canvassed the area, they later spotted a man matching that description riding a bicycle along Eastern Avenue near I-95. Authorities say officers attempted to detain him after a brief pursuit, at which point a struggle ensued. According to investigators, the man produced a handgun during the confrontation and fired it, prompting multiple officers to return fire. The man, later identified as 40-year-old Jamal Muse of Baltimore, was struck and pronounced dead at the scene despite officers rendering aid until medics arrived. No officers were injured, and a firearm was recovered nearby. The shooting marks the city’s third police-involved shooting of the year and is now being reviewed by the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division, as required by state law.
