Gender-Based Violence (GBV) refers to harmful acts directed at individuals based on their gender. It is rooted in power imbalances, discrimination, and societal norms, and can affect anyone but disproportionately impacts women and girls. GBV includes physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse, as well as economic deprivation and threats. It can occur in private or public spaces and remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally. Ending GBV requires awareness, prevention, support for survivors, and collective action to create safer, more equitable communities.
