The protests began in Jakarta on Monday amid widespread anger over alleged corruption involving government officials.Public outrage erupted amid claims that 580 members of the House of Representatives have been receiving a monthly housing allowance of 50 million rupiah (approximately £2,270) since September 2024 – nearly ten times the city’s minimum wage.
Activists are calling for an end to what they describe as excessive perks given to lawmakers in addition to their regular salaries
