Just days before his passing, Pope Francis signed a Vatican decree dissolving a powerful Peruvian Catholic society that had been at the centre of a long-standing abuse scandal. The 2023 Vatican investigation exposed deeply troubling behavior, including what was described as “sadistic” abuses of power by leaders within the group.
