Hello!!! Hope today is a great day for you. My name is Josue, and I would love to take a short segment to tell you about myself. I’m 28, I’m a great kid with a good heart; I love listening to people and helping whoever is in need. Having good parents and a great education has helped me become a productive member of society.

On 02-22-2025, after I stopped at the pump inside a gas station, I witnessed through the rear-view mirror, a police car abruptly turns into the gas station and accelerate to what I estimate between 30-40 mph towards me inside the premises. As I exited the vehicle and headed to the pump, he exited his car and yelled at me, “GET BACK IN YOUR VEHICLE!!”

I mentioned to the officer that at the time of the stop I was not driving. His tone shifted, he got mad… the officer said, “I am going to take him anyway because he gave me attitude.”

They wanted to arrest me to search my car… it was evident. It seems that his hope was to find something in the car. They searched the glovebox twice and the hidden compartment of my spare tire, saying multiple times… there is nothing in there… 11 minutes into the stop I was in handcuffs, and the tow truck was already there…

The booking officer said to me, “Oh, you don’t want to talk? Let’s see where that’s going to get you!”

“Oh, you don’t want to give me your information?! I’m going to put you in a cell, let’s see how you feel about that…”

(I am crying nonstop since I was stopped…)

30 minutes passed, he brings me out, this time he says, “I am going to make your bail $1,000.” My answer was, “You can do whatever you want.” He then puts me back in the booking area. This time he says, “You thought we weren’t going to find out you have a fake driver’s license.” Outraged by this statement, I answered, “Are you sure? Are you sure that’s not a Nebraska driver’s license?” I was fingerprinted twice, and as I was taking my mugshot, he says, “There was a guy, same name, same date of birth, he was arrested in Danbury in 2001. He was from Omaha… was that your dad?”

They kept me in jail for 24 hours. I was denied medical attention and my medical disability was neglected. I suffer from heart failure, a deadly condition that can be affected by stress and dehydration. I begged for water in the Danbury police department and they refused. I was held on a $10,000 bond. I lost my car, my job, and my home. I had to flee to the Dominican Republic to avoid being homeless. Reality is, I was too poor, too poor to get it done in a timely manner, too poor to live a dignified life… and right now I am too poor to fight by myself… here I am before you, as a brother… as a citizen of this wonderful nation, as somebody that has kept their record a top priority… I used to wave it like a flag of pride. I am a good person… I did everything they said to do and still I end up being a victim of the system.
