Protesting retirees in Buenos Aires, Argentina were beaten, dragged and tear gassed as police sought to quell a demonstration in front of the National Congress on March 12. Roughly 800 officers clashed with young and elderly demonstrators alike, resulting in 103 arrests and at least 20 injuries, including one 87-year-old woman who sustained a serious head wound.
The retirees, who were joined by supporters from prominent football clubs, unions and progressive groups, had been protesting for higher pensions and improved living conditions.
