Instead of stopping on a dark stretch of road, Lieutenant Nazario activated his turn signal, slowed down, and drove about a mile to reach a well-lit gas station. During this time, Officer Joe Gutierrez joined the pursuit. Upon arrival, both officers exited their vehicles, drew their firearms, and pointed them at Lieutenant Nazario.
