A federal judge dismissed corruption charges against Eric Adams, bringing a permanent end to the case and capping an extraordinary series of events that sowed discord within the Justice Department.
The decision to formally kill the prosecution means the charges against Adams, the first sitting New York City mayor in modern history to be accused of federal crimes, can’t be refiled at a later date. In his ruling Wednesday, US District Judge Dale Ho sternly criticized the effort by President Donald Trump’s Justice Department to leave the refiling option open.
Ho’s decision is a mixed result for the Trump administration, which sought to have the case dismissed “without prejudice,” meaning it could be revived down the road. That move sparked accusations that the administration was using leverage to force the mayor to cooperate with its agenda — something both the government and Adams denied.
