Sheikh Wasem Charkawi was leading small group of Muslims in prayer in Sydney Town Hall Square after the mass rally against the state visit of war criminal Israeli President Isaac Herzog on February 9 when the group was violently attacked by NSW Police. Social media is full of images captured by ordinary citizens of this and other cases of extreme police violence against rally participants. Sheikh Wasem made a powerful speech at a protest against this police violence held the following day at Surry Hills police station on Gadigal Country. He called for respect for all religions and said NSW Premier should resign. “To the people who have come out here to stand for and defend the principle of justice: Thank you very much and keep standing!”
