This is never-before-seen surveillance video of the treatment I endured on the night of December 10–11, 2022, first at Casino Rama and later at the Orillia OPP Detachment Centre.
That night, I was asked to leave the casino, and I was walking toward the exit peacefully when a younger security guard began provoking me and escalating the situation. I was then tackled to the ground by security guards, and the youngest guard detained me and sat on my back for nearly 10 minutes, causing serious injuries to my head, elbow, and wrist while I was yelling that I could not breathe.
Constable Evan Gorman and Rama Police then got involved, and that’s when my ankles were shackled with two handcuffs linked together, barely leaving enough distance for the officers to walk while dragging me out. While dragging me, they also pulled my hoodie over my eyes and mouth, closing it in a way that made it impossible for me to see or breathe.
While being dragged, Constable Gorman lied that I had bitten him, then forcibly drove my head into the concrete. Gorman did see a doctor, but he had no injuries, took no pictures, and provided no evidence to support these false allegations.
Constable Gorman then drove me, still hogtied with no seatbelt, to the Orillia OPP detachment. He drove erratically and slammed on the brakes, smashing my head into the divider and knocking me unconscious. At the detachment, I was dragged inside with a spit mask on my head — all to support false allegations that I had bitten casino security and Rama Police.
The so-called “bite mark” they photographed was an absolute joke — it looked more like a cat bite than anything human. I now have two forensic dentists prepared to testify that these allegations are nonsense and scientifically baseless.
Meanwhile, I was left bleeding in a cell for over an hour with no care offered. That’s when I gently tapped on the cell door and requested medical help. My wrists were swollen, my elbow felt torn, my head was ringing, and my ankles were in pain. Sergeant Leslie Lagace and others still never offered proper care. When I was finally taken to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, a nurse and doctor lied on my chart and discharged me improperly so the SIU wouldn’t be called.
Injured, I was thrown out into a blizzard and left to wait for a taxi to get back home to Burlington.
This is not the first time Constable Gorman has assaulted and injured people he unlawfully detained. There has been no accountability. The public has the right to see the truth of what really happened that night with Casino Rama security, Rama Police, and the OPP.
