KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has made explosive claims that a powerful criminal syndicate involving politicians, police officers, prosecutors, judges, and business people is working to derail investigations into political killings.

Speaking at a media briefing last Sunday, Mkhwanazi accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and a top deputy of disbanding a specialised task team. He went further to suggest that even some elements of the judiciary are allegedly protecting criminals.
