Cash recovery at Justice Varma’s home revives 2018 fraud case links. The fraud case dates back to the 2018 Simbhaoli Sugar Mill scam, where he was the tenth accused. Reportedly, in 2018 CBI has filed an FIR against 12, including Yashwant Varma, in the ₹97 crore fraud. The case involved misappropriation of loans meant for farmers, flagged as a ‘suspected fraud’ by the RBI in 2015. Despite serious allegations, no major action was taken against Varma or other accused individuals. A court ordered the CBI to resume the probe in 2024, but the SC overturned the directive, shutting down the investigation. The cash recovery has fueled concerns over potential financial irregularities and the handling of corruption cases involving high-ranking officials.
