Joe Anderson said he looks forward to “clearing his name” after he appeared in court to face charges of bribery and misconduct in public office.

The former Mayor of Liverpool is accused of sending himself ‘threatening letters’ and agreeing to receive a bribe as he and 11 others face charges following a police corruption investigation.

Anderson, 67, of The Beechwalk in Liverpool, appeared at Preston Magistrates Court on Friday where he faced three counts connected to Merseyside Police’s Operation Aloft investigation, which has been looking at building and development contracts connected with Liverpool City Council. Anderson’s lawyer indicated not guilty pleas to all three counts.
