Britain’s High Court is set to determine whether Peruvian miners were abused by police, during an environmental protest against Xstrada’s Tintaya copper mine, Glencore’s Peruvian subsidiary, in May 2012.
They are suing the mining giant Glencore, accusing it of encouraging the Peruvian National Police (PNP) to use violence.
Two protesters were killed and several others were injured, assaulted and unlawfully detained by the PNP during the protest.
