Fourth Day of Unprovoked Attacks on Jews in Brooklyn

An Orthodox Jewish man in Crown Heights was attacked when exiting his home Tuesday morning, marking the fourth day in a row of unprovoked attacks on visibly Jewish people in Brooklyn.

The incident happened around 6:4 0 a.m. on Union Street between Kingston and Albany Avenues, COLlive reported. The victim, 57 years old, told the news outlet that the attacker “jumped me, while yelling and screaming and shouting obscenities,” and that “he was clearly in a rage.” The attacker, a black man believed to be 35, tore the victim’s clothing, and repeatedly tried to assault him. The victim fought him off, whereupon the attacker ran off down Union Street, fleeing towards Albany Avenue. He was seen on surveillance footage.

On Monday afternoon, a 27 year old Orthodox man was slapped in Williamsburg, on Lynch Street between Harrison and Marcy Avenues, Shomrim tells Hamodia.

On Sunday morning in Williamsburg, a teenager sprayed a chemical fire extinguisher twice at an Orthodox man, 66 years old, covering him in the material. He then hurled the canister at him, which baruch Hashem missed its mark. He proceeded to punch the victim in the face, causing minor wounds. The victim was on his way to shul.

The same youth is wanted by police for chasing a Jewish man in the same area on Motzoei Shabbos, at around 12am, on Lee Avenue between Taylor Street and Roebling Avenue.

None of the victims required medical attention.

NYPD told Hamodia in relation to the fire extinguisher attack that police will increase their presence in the community, visiting shuls and yeshivos. “We take these incidents very seriously and will ensure safety for all,” a spokesperson said.

NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the three earlier cases. A report was made to the police regarding Tuesday’s incident.
