Double Scam Alert! The FBI warns that scammers are now impersonating IC3 (Internet Crime Complaint Center) agents to revictimize fraud victims.
Between Dec 2023 and Feb 2025, over 100 reports show scammers posing as IC3 employees—offering fake “help” to recover lost funds.
How it works:
Scammers email, call, or DM victims pretending to be IC3 agents
Fake profiles (often female personas) infiltrate support groups
Victims are told to message “Jaime Quin,” a fake IC3 Chief, on Telegram
Quin claims to have recovered funds — but it’s a ploy to steal more personal info and money
🧠 Remember:
IC3 will NEVER contact victims via social media or Telegram
They do NOT ask for payment to recover funds
FBI agents don’t refer you to third-party “recovery” companies that ask for cash
In a similar crackdown, Spanish police arrested 6 scammers who posed as Europol agents and UK lawyers, offering fund recovery in exchange for “local tax fees.”
Stay safe:
❌ Don’t send personal or financial info to strangers
❌ Don’t pay to “recover” money you lost
✅ Report scams directly at ic3.gov
