Nationals Leader David Littleproud says there needs to be “big fines” in place for supermarkets if they abuse power.
Supermarket giants could be hit with billions of dollars in fines if they fail to meet a mandatory code of conduct.
This would be aimed at protecting farmers and consumers.
“There needs to be big fines,” Mr Littleproud told Sky News Australia.
“But it’s more complex than that – you also have other codes that need to be run into this.”
