It was one of the tri-state’s worst police corruption scandals until one young police officer risked his life to stop it.

It sounds like the plot of a movie. A rookie police officer in West New York, New Jersey finds out other officers are taking money from the Cuban mob and goes undercover for the FBI. The result is one of the largest police corruption busts in history. Forty cops – including the chief – were charged and either pleaded guilty or were convicted.

News 12 spoke to Richard Rivera, the officer whose bold undercover operation brought the corruption to light.
