Two Border Management Authority (BMA) officials were arrested at Beitbridge Border Post on April 22, 2025, for allegedly accepting a bribe to allow undocumented immigrants to cross into South Africa. The operation, conducted by the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit and Musina Detectives, led to the arrest of nine individuals, including the two BMA officials, a taxi driver, a female passenger, and five undocumented foreign nationals. All suspects appeared before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on April 23, 2025, facing charges of corruption and contravening the Immigration Act. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about corruption at South Africa’s borders, with the BMA having dismissed approximately 27 officials since its inception in April 2023 and currently investigating 45 cases of misconduct. The public is urged to report any suspicious activities related to human trafficking and smuggling to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and victims are protected .
