Off-Duty Cop Gets So Drunk He Threatens to Kill Everyone at the Casino
On October 19, 2025, Lincoln Police in Rhode Island responded to Bally’s Twin River Casino after security reported an off-duty Providence detective causing a disturbance. Detective Gary Slater, highly intoxicated, had reportedly threatened to kill patrons inside the casino, leading to his ejection by security.
Once outside, Slater refused to cooperate with officers, called them “zeroes,” and remained belligerent throughout the encounter. Officers ultimately placed him in protective custody and transported him to headquarters to sober up. He later apologized and was released to a friend — no charges were filed.
Following the incident, Providence Police Department suspended Slater without pay after an internal review.
