Australian police officers violently attacked Muslims as they prayed during a peaceful protest in Sydney against the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, with footage showing officers shoving, dragging and throwing worshippers who were trying to finish their prayers.
Police escalated the protest by provoking crowds, pushing demonstrators and deploying pepper spray in an attempt to forcibly disperse widespread opposition to the visit of genocidal Israeli president Isaac Herzog.
Critics say the scenes mark a dark stain on Australia, condemning the government for inviting a war criminal, unleashing violence on peaceful protesters and targeting Muslim worshippers in public prayer.
The Australian National Imams Council said footage of police “heavy handedly” pushing Muslims while praying was “shocking, deeply disturbing, and entirely unacceptable”, adding that it was “outraged” and had raised urgent concerns with the NSW Police Commissioner and ministers, insisting the NSW Government and Premier Chris Minns must take responsibility and ensure accountability at the highest levels.
Minns attempted to blame Muslims on national television by claiming there had been a “riot” at the time of the assault, a claim directly contradicted by video footage, as human rights organisations, community leaders and the public condemned the police actions as an unprovoked assault.
