An officer-involved shooting in Windsor, Ontario on March 18, 2026 is now under investigation by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
According to Windsor Police Service, officers responded to a reported robbery in the 3200 block of Sandwich Street shortly after 6 p.m. The suspect was later located near Rankin Avenue and Wyandotte Street West, where police say he was armed with a knife.
During the interaction, officers discharged their firearms. The man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later confirmed deceased.
The SIU has invoked its mandate and is now responsible for investigating the incident. As a result, Windsor Police say they are unable to provide further details at this time.
