On Presidents’ Day, February 16, 2026, up to 500 teenagers
swarmed the Mall at Bay Plaza in the Baychester section of the
Bronx for a planned “takeover” promoted on social media
platforms.
The large crowd gathered around 2:00 p.m. near Baychester
Boulevard and Mall Boulevard. Participants stormed stores inside
the mall, trashing displays, hurling chairs, knocking over
merchandise, grabbing items, and causing significant disruption
that forced some businesses to close temporarily.
The chaos extended outside, where a nearby McDonald’s had
windows smashed and sustained damage attributed to the same
group.
NYPD officers from the 45th Precinct responded to multiple 911
calls for crowd control and disorderly conduct
As police attempted to disperse the crowd, objects were thrown
at responding officers.
Multiple warnings were issued before arrests were made.
In total, 18 individuals were taken into custody-17 juveniles (as
young as 13) and one 19-year-old adult. Charges included rioting,
unlawful assembly, and related offenses.
