Protesters have clashed with police at the tail end of a snap demonstration against alleged “police brutality” in Sydney.
The rally was announced on social media on Tuesday, after pro-Palestine demonstrators alleged they had been brutalised during protests against Israeli President Isaac Herzog the night prior.
At least 100 armed police officers monitored the peaceful event at Harmony Park outside Surry Hills Police Station on Tuesday evening.
Moments after the demonstration wrapped up, activist Josh Lees urged the crowd to disperse.
But a protester and several police officers were seen getting into a scuffle.
A man dressed in a red keffiyah was seen being taken away from the park by police officers, as more officers formed a barricade against protesters and media.
Police later said in a statement that the protest concluded “without major incident”.
