A man from Swindon has been sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, for multiple driving offences, including failing to stop for police.

Nathan Wiltshire, 21, of Calder Close, Haydon Wick, admitted failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance. He was sentenced at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on December 22.

At around 2am on October 28, officers from the dog section and Armed Response Group attempted to stop a Mercedes in Pinehurst.

The vehicle failed to stop, resulting in an authorised pursuit. The Mercedes drove at twice the speed limit along Whitworth Road before turning onto Thames Avenue.

It lost control and collided with a metal fence, after which the vehicle was boxed in by pursuing officers.

Wiltshire was also disqualified from driving for two years and must pass an extended retest. He was ordered to carry out 20 days of rehabilitation activity, pay £85 in costs, and a £187 surcharge.

PC Head said: “Wiltshire’s driving can only be described as dangerous. At one particularly hazardous point, the vehicle mounted the pavement near a pub, causing damage to a footpath metal fence and deploying the airbags. It is fortunate that he didn’t injure himself, the passengers in the vehicle, or any other road user.”
