Israeli forces used heavy-handed tactics in Haifa, arresting 10 activists during a protest in solidarity with 19-year-old Yona Roseman, who is being jailed for refusing to enlist in Israel’s military.

Roseman, who announced weeks ago that she would reject mandatory service, said: “The state of Israel is committing genocide, and we must resist.”

Military service is compulsory for Israeli Jewish teenagers, but Roseman has taken a public stand against participating, despite knowing she would face prison time.

The protest in Haifa highlighted growing dissent inside Israel, where voices opposing the war and mandatory enlistment continue to face aggressive crackdowns from police and the state.
