As protests and violence continue to grip Kenya, a street vendor named Boniface Kariuki has died after being shot in the head by police during protests in Nairobi on June 17. Kariuki’s death, after nearly two weeks of being on life support, has ignited further public outrage over alleged police brutality and demands for justice. Two police officers have been arrested in connection with his shooting and remain in custody. In recent weeks, Kenya has seen a wave of protests, fuelled by allegations of police brutality. On June 25, nationwide protests, which were initially held to mark a year since massive anti-tax demonstrations, descended into chaos.
