The prosecution has added charges of abuse of power against former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
This comes as part of the ongoing trial regarding the coup leader case, which will also cover the newly added charges.

The special investigation team of the prosecution announced today (1st) that former President Yoon Suk Yeol has been indicted without detention for the charge of interfering with the exercise of rights due to abuse of power.
It has been three months since former President Yoon Suk Yeol was indicted and detained on January 26 for the coup leader allegation.
After the Constitutional Court’s decision to dismiss him last month, former President Yoon Suk Yeol lost his immunity, and the prosecution has been conducting supplementary investigations into the abuse of power allegations.
The central issue is that after declaring the ‘December 3 martial law’, he attempted to deploy the military and police to occupy or restrict access to the National Assembly and the National Election Commission.
While the prosecution did not directly investigate former President Yoon Suk Yeol, they stated, “We have confirmed his stance sufficiently through the impeachment trial, criminal trial, and statements, so we deemed there was no hindrance to the indictment.”
Regarding the background of the indictment without detention, the prosecution explained, “Because the criminal procedure law prohibits the same facts from resulting in two detentions by the investigative agency.”
Today, the prosecution requested the court to merge the newly indicted charges with the ongoing trial regarding the coup allegations.
The allegations against former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his spouse being investigated by the prosecution, police, and the High-ranking Officials Crime Investigation Unit include ten counts such as interference in nominations and obstruction of arrest warrants.
With former President Yoon Suk Yeol losing his immunity and being indicted on charges beyond the coup allegations, investigations into other allegations surrounding him are expected to accelerate.
