Deputies responded to a stolen vehicle crash in unincorporated West Palm Beach on July 15, uncovering a series of thefts and leading to the arrest of a suspect.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) said at around 5:19 a.m., deputies responded to an abandoned vehicle that crashed on 7th Place Street and Lyons Road, near Palm Beach Central High School.
A deputy discovered the silver Toyota which was reported stolen three days before, on July 12. According to the arrest affidavit, the occupants in the car bailed out and attempted to hide property in nearby bushes. The items were later identified as tools and equipment from a PBSO Crime Scene Unit vehicle.
The stolen items consisted of:
• 2 PBSO ballistic vests
• Metal detector
• Nikon digital camera with flash
• Spider Wire bag
• Lowepro bag
• 2 Plano bags
• Digging tool
• Crime scene equipment
Other items were found in the Toyota that didn’t belong to PBSO like an iPhone, backpack, clothing, and a Snapple bottle. Items commonly used in burglaries were recovered like a broken spark plug, gloves, a large concrete screw, and a broken file. Those items were later processed into evidence.
The PBSO detective was later notified of a second vehicle theft just 100 yards from the initial crash site. Surveillance video shows the Jaguar was stolen at around 4:30 a.m., just minutes after the bailout, by two white men, the detective stated in the affidavit.
The stolen Jaguar was later found by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) abandoned on 10th Avenue North and Detroit Street in Lake Worth, smoke coming from its engine. When investigators spoke with the Jaguar’s owner, she told PBSO that the suspects forced the gate of her driveway open and stole the car.
A BOLO was issued for the two men with descriptions of what they were wearing.
On Tuesday, one of the men, identified as 21-year-old James White, was spotted by a PBSO agent entering the Palo Verde Community on Forest Hill Boulevard, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and white sneakers. Law enforcement attempted to stop White, but he fled on foot. After a brief search, White was found hiding in a patio utility closet.
During White’s apprehension, law enforcement recovered a stolen semi-automatic pistol from his waistband. According to detectives, the gun was stolen from the original vehicle burglaries in July.
At the Main Jail, detectives noticed White was wearing the same clothes as in the surveillance video. During the interview, PBSO said White identified himself in the video.
PBSO said White was arrested and booked into the PBC Main Jail on several counts of burglary, grand theft auto, fraud through the illegal use of credit cards, possession of stolen credit cards, fraudulent use of personal identification information, and resisting an officer. Additionally, the sheriff’s office said White faces possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for a prior arrest.
White didn’t act alone, according to PBSO, White identified one of the men he was with as 26-year-old Denis Fiallosorellana, whose fingerprints were also recovered from the scene. Additionally, another set of fingerprints belonging to Zachary Canavan was recovered from the stolen Toyota.
