Officials in Austin, Texas, were investigating an apparent house explosion, the Austin fire department reported on social media.
Around 11.25am CDT, residents in north-west Austin reported hearing and feeling an explosion in the area. “It rattled my windows and building,” one person posted on social media with an image of a plume of smoke rising into the air.
Austin fire department has confirmed that four people – including one firefighter – were injured in the blast, which collapsed the house.
The blast caused damage to neighboring homes. Power was out in the surrounding area and the neighborhood has been closed off as crews fight small spot fires resulting from the explosion.
Emergency officials were investigating the source but say they think the explosion that caused the house to collapse was caused by a gas explosion, possibly propane, KVUE news reported. The Texas Gas Service confirmed the house did not have natural gas service.
