Lim Oon Kuin, founder of the collapsed Hin Leong Trading, was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison for defrauding HSBC of millions, in one of Singapore’s largest fraud cases.
The 82-year-old, known as O.K. Lim, was convicted in May for offences that the judge said could undermine confidence in Singapore’s oil trading sector.
His company’s 2020 collapse marked a major blow to the industry.
While his age reduced the sentence by a year, no further leniency was granted for health reasons. Lim remains free on bail as he plans to appeal.
