We at the ACLJ have formally requested that the FBI reconsider its revocation of Special Agent Garret O’Boyle’s security clearance, which we argue was a retaliatory action against a protected whistleblower. Represented by the ACLJ, Empower Oversight, and Binnall Law Group, O’Boyle—a decorated Army veteran and former law enforcement officer—was indefinitely suspended without pay after a surprise interview at his new duty station in September 2022, just after moving cross-country with his family. His case is part of a troubling pattern of retaliation by FBI leadership against whistleblowers who expose misconduct, further highlighting the agency’s growing politicization.
