The Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) will decide whether to charge a journalist accused of publishing a misleading article about the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), says Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

Azam stressed that the case was following standard practice based on past cases and legal precedents set by the courts.

He also reaffirmed that the case was not selective as he had received many queries, particularly from the media, regarding the nature of the offence under investigation.

On Saturday, the MACC confirmed that a journalist had been detained to assist in an investigation into a corruption case. MACC also dismissed claims that the arrest was linked to his investigative reporting.

This followed a Feb 22 report by the news portal, which cited sources alleging that a former Immigration officer, now holding the title “Datuk”, was the mastermind behind a cartel operating at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
