Thanksgiving morning, 2019. Rhonda Kessel set a twenty-two-pound frozen turkey on her porch in Bozeman while she unlocked the front door. It rolled off the step. Her driveway had a nine-percent grade. The turkey picked up speed like a bowling ball on fresh ice, crossed the street, and punched a clean dent into the driver’s side door of a parked police cruiser. Officer Brandt watched the whole thing from inside the car, coffee mid-sip. The body cam footage hit YouTube by noon. 1.6 million views in four days. A local body shop fixed the cruiser for free in exchange for using the footage in their ad. Rhonda got a $21 municipal damage citation. She framed it next to the turkey thermometer.
