A controversial video from a police station in Unnao has gone viral, showing a Station House Officer allegedly assaulting a youth inside the premises, sparking outrage on social media.
In the footage, the accused officer, identified as Sub-Inspector Rahul Singh, is seen beating the youth with a belt, slapping and kicking him, while allegedly using abusive language. Two constables are also present during the incident, and parts of the incident appear to have been recorded on camera.
According to reports, the youth, identified as Pankaj, a resident of Parsanda village, had been brought to the police station in connection with a land dispute. He was reportedly intoxicated and allegedly misbehaving with police personnel at the time.
Another version circulating on social media claims the youth was creating a ruckus due to alleged “possession”, though there is no official confirmation of this claim.
The video, said to be around four months old, surfaced recently and quickly went viral.
Taking cognisance, Senior Superintendent of Police Jaiprakash Singh stated that an inquiry has been ordered and assigned to the Circle Officer, Bighapur. He added that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Police officials have urged people not to spread unverified claims and assured that appropriate legal action will follow after evidence is examined.
