Following the tragic killing of three young girls in Southport, violent incidents have erupted in various cities across the UK. On Friday, protesters attacked police and started fires in the city of Sunderland, and similar violent outbreaks have been reported in other locations.
The violence follows the dissemination of false information on social media regarding the suspect in the stabbings, leading to tensions and unrest. Police said the suspect, 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, has been charged with the murder of the girls in a knife attack at a dance workshop in Southport.
As the nation grapples with the shock of these events, at least 30 demonstrations are planned across the UK this weekend, along with counter-protests by anti-racism groups.
